Are you thinking of planning a trip to one of Thailand’s most popular destinations? Phuket is a scenic tropical island situated in the Andaman Sea. With some of the most stunning beaches and rainforests in Thailand, it also has many great resorts, spas and restaurants, so visitors won’t have a shortage of things to do or see.  Here are some top ways to plan your trip to Phuket for an unforgettable adventure.

Travelling to Phuket

The best way to travel to Phuket is by air from Bangkok to Phuket International Airport. It's easy to book a flight from the capital - there are several direct flights daily, all of which only take about half an hour. The airport is located 30 minutes away from some of the most bustling tourist spots on the island. If you prefer to travel through the countryside and soak in the sights, you can opt for a bus or train. This will take you longer, but at least you can enjoy the scenery as you go!

The Best Times to Travel

Before embarking on your trip, you need to be aware of the best times to visit. Phuket’s tourist season is from November to April when the weather tends to be pleasant and sunny. However, this is also the busiest time, so expect to see large crowds at many tourist attractions, as well as high prices. To avoid all this, consider going to Phuket during the low season, from May to October. Though you may run into some rainy weather during this time, there will be fewer crowds, and your wallet will thank you!

Findin a Place to Stay

Once you have figured out when you want to travel, the next step is finding a place to stay. Since Phuket is a large island, you will have plenty of options. For a location with an energetic vibe and thriving nightlife, Patong Beach might be the right spot for you. This is one of the most popular beaches in Thailand, with lively parties that go on all night. If you prefer a quieter area, consider Kata or Rawai Beach. Kata Beach, in particular, is perfect for honeymoon couples or families, and you could look at booking Phuket Beachfront Villas. Karon is another location that will appeal to those looking for a laid-back atmosphere to unwind in.

Things to do

Phuket offers many amazing activities that will leave tourists with a packed itinerary. From exploring the island and sightseeing in the historic Old Phuket town, to relaxing and sunbathing on the pristine beaches to experiencing the nightlife, Phuket has it all. The best attractions range from the picturesque Phi Phi islands, where you can go snorkelling to explore the coral reefs to Maya Bay, a beach paradise, where visitors can see baby sharks in the clear water. Other popular activities include taking a boat ride around the island, visiting ancient shrines and temples like Wat Chalong to learn more about the culture, and getting a Thai massage. Travellers looking for a taste of adventure can go rock climbing in Phang Nga Bay, or experience scuba diving in Racha islands. You could also stroll along scenic stretches of Paradise Beach or Freedom Beach, and book a stay at one of the best hotels on the island such as Anantara Layan Phuket Resort. Nature lovers can explore the thick jungles by hiking through Khao Phra Thaeo National Park or view elephants at the Phuket Elephant Nature Reserve. Don’t forget to sample the island’s cuisine by heading to the street food stalls on the roadside.

Getting Around

Getting around the island is easy. If you want to experience Phuket at your own pace, consider renting a motorcycle or scooter. This way, you can keep things flexible if a new location or attraction catches your fancy. Other modes of transport include taxis and tuk-tuks. The latter is a budget-friendly way to travel, especially around town. However, there are no metres, so always agree on a price before taking one.
