One beach is never enough when Phuket packs so many different coastlines into one island. You can start with the buzz of Patong, swap it for Karon’s long sweep of sand, spend the afternoon around Kata and finish with the sun dropping over the Andaman Sea at Promthep Cape. For couples, the trick is choosing a route that gives you time to actually enjoy each stop.
Start Early at Patong
Set off early while Patong is quieter and the morning light is still soft across the bay. The beach has a wide, curved shoreline, with cafés, restaurants and shops around the surrounding streets, making it easy to grab breakfast before getting into the water.
If your starting point is around Rat Uthit 200 Pi Road, where M Social Hotel Phuket is located, you can walk towards the beachfront before beginning the drive south. Keep the first stop focused on the beach itself, with enough time for breakfast, a swim and a walk along the sand.
Do not linger too long if you want to fit several beaches into one day. Karon is next on the route, followed by Kata and the southern coastline.

Follow the Coast to Karon
Head south from Patong to Karon, where the scenery opens out into a much longer stretch of pale sand. Karon is about 3 km north of Kata, and the journey from Patong takes around 20 minutes by car or motorcycle under normal conditions.
This is a wonderful place to slow down for a while. Walk along the shoreline, swim if conditions are safe and find somewhere for lunch before continuing south. Karon has restaurants, shops and other facilities close to the beach, so you do not need to leave the area for a meal.
Give Kata the Afternoon
Continue towards Kata, where Kata Yai and Kata Noi offer you two beaches to choose from in the same area. Kata is known for swimming and diving lessons, with a coral reef extending from the southern end towards Poo Island.
Kata Noi is a smaller option if you want a quieter stretch of sand. Pick one as your main stop instead of trying to squeeze both into a short visit. Leave enough time for a proper swim, a drink in the shade and a little time together without checking the clock.
Sea conditions should guide your plans. Phuket’s official tourism information advises visitors to pay attention to red flags before entering the water, particularly when conditions are rough.
Add Nai Harn Only If You Have Time
Nai Harn can be the extra beach on your route if the earlier stops have gone to plan. The beach sits beside a freshwater lagoon and is popular for swimming and sunbathing.
This is where flexibility matters. Phuket’s provincial tourism information advises against swimming at Nai Harn from May to October because of strong currents. If conditions are unsuitable, skip the swim and continue towards the viewpoints instead of forcing another beach stop into your day.
You could also make a short detour to Ya Nui, a small cove between Windmill Viewpoint and Promthep Cape. It is around five minutes from Nai Harn by road and offers another change of scenery.
Finish at Promthep Cape
Make Laem Phromthep, commonly called Promthep Cape, your final destination. The viewpoint sits at the southern end of Phuket and is known for its sunset views across the Andaman Sea.
Do not arrive at the last minute. Give yourselves time to find a viewing spot, walk around the viewpoint and watch the coastline you have followed throughout the day turn golden as the sun drops.
If you are travelling during a busier period, allow extra time for traffic and parking around the viewpoint. The sunset is the one part of the itinerary you cannot repeat once you have missed it.
Keep the Route Flexible
A beach-hopping day works best when you treat the route as a framework, not a checklist. Patong → Karon → Kata or Kata Noi → Nai Harn → Promthep Cape gives you a natural southward progression, but you do not need to complete every stop.
If three beaches are enough, make Patong your morning start, choose Karon or Kata for the main beach stay and finish at Promthep Cape. If you have more time, add Nai Harn or Ya Nui.
When planning where to start, a search for the best hotels in Phuket near Patong Beach can also help you understand which areas put you closer to the first stop. Check the actual route, expected traffic and sunset time before setting off, then leave room for an extra swim or an unplanned stop along the coast.
