Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and is well known for its gorgeous beaches and thrilling ocean adventures. If you have only a single day to experience the magic of this island, be sure to use this comprehensive guide to help you decide what to do.

Early Morning: Serenading the sun

Welcome the Day at Layan Beach

Get an early start to the day by visiting the infamous Layan beach. Because you are visiting the beach so early, you have the advantage of interacting with a smaller crowd, and it will be the perfect opportunity to watch the golden sunrise. Feel the gentle morning breeze and listen to the soothing sound of the waves as the sky transitions from the darkness of dawn to brilliant shades of yellow and orange. After a tiring early morning, you could head to the Anantara Layan Phuket Resort or a different resort of your choice that is close to the beach to freshen up before heading to your next destination.

Visit the Big Buddha

After freshening up, head over to one of the most iconic landmarks that Phuket has to offer. Standing 45 metres in height, the Big Buddha statue, as it is known, provides a haven for travellers and locals to explore and revel in the spiritual energies of this place. Nakkerd Hill, on which the statue stands, offers the perfect panoramic view of the island as well. This is also a great place to capture some fantastic photos and videos to show off to your friends.

Discover Phuket's Old Town

The next place on the list is the Phuket Old Town, which is a historical treasure trove. Wander along the streets filled with beautiful murals, the remains of Sino-Portuguese architecture, and several quiet cafes. Visit the Thai Hua Museum to learn about the island’s rich history and the influence of Chinese immigrants. Don’t miss out on the abundant street food being sold by vendors all over Old Town. Dim sum, mango sticky rice and Hokkien noodles are some of the must-tries among street food.

Afternoon: Adventure and Relaxation

Snorkelling at Coral Island

After a meal outdoors, head over to Coral Island on a boat. Known for its diverse selection of marine species and crystal clear waters, Coral Island is another must-visit place when visiting Phuket. Enjoy the colourful fish and coral reefs as you snorkel in the ocean's depths. If you prefer to stay dry, the island also offers beautiful beaches where you can relax and soak up the sun.

Explore Wat Chalong

Remember to stop at Wat Chalong, one of Phuket’s largest and most important Buddhist temples. Learn about the religious practices and enjoy the ornate architecture of this beautiful place.

Evening: Sunset and Dinner

Promthep Cape for a Glorious Sunset

Among the things to do in Phuket, watching the sunset over the island is a must. Promthep Cape is one of the best places on the island to witness this natural spectacle. Be sure to arrive early to reserve a good spot on the beach to watch the red ball of fire dip under the cool waves of the ocean, painting the sky with majestic and breathtaking blue, purple and red hues.

Dinner at a Local Restaurant

As the glorious day at Phuket comes to an end, head over to one of the local restaurants for some authentic Thai-style cuisine. Whether you choose a beachfront restaurant or a cosy spot in town, make sure to try some local specialities like Tom Yum Goong (spicy shrimp soup) or Pad Thai. Please take a moment to enjoy the individual flavours of various spices as they come together in a symphony of flavour inside your mouth. Reminisce the day's happenings as you bid farewell to this magical island paradise.
