If you are looking for the perfect destination for your dream wedding, then look no further than Sri Lanka. This island nation is an excellent destination for weddings offering a range of places to tie the knot by the ocean. With stunning beaches and amazing hospitality, here are some tips on how to plan a memorable beach wedding in Sri Lanka.

Selecting the ideal location

Sri Lanka, being an island has beaches all around the country. However, the Southern coast is the most population destination given the stunning beaches with turquoise water and luxury hotels and resorts. Located not too far from Colombo city, Bentota, Galle and Tangalle are home to some of the ideal resorts to host a wedding including the beautiful Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort. Trincomalee and Passikudah are also locations with stunning beaches with a handful of resorts. The only downside is the long drive it requires to get to the location. Therefore, while there are other beautiful beaches all around the country, the South can be recommended as the most convenient location for a beautiful beach wedding.

Best time to choose

Unless you are looking for some showers during your wedding, it is best to avoid the monsoon season to avoid having rain pouring down on your big day. If you have selected a destination on the Southern coast such as Bentota, Galle or Tangalle, the best time to have your wedding is between November to April when the weather is usually warm and dry. While other coastal areas such as the Northeast cost experience little to no rain from May to September, the drive to the location can be quite time-consuming. However, if you wish to host your wedding from May to September, you can explore options in Passikudah and Trincomalee.

Picking the decorations

Once you have the location and the season picked out, the next aspect to look into is the theme and decorations. Although you are in a different country, you do not have to worry too much about not having the right people to bring your vision to life. Sri Lanka has some of the best wedding planners that will help you to source and design your wedding with the ideal decorations. However, selecting a hotel or resort that offers Sri Lanka Hotels Wedding Packages is recommended as it will make your wedding planning process much easier as they will be able to connect you with the right vendors.

Choosing the right attire

Another important factor to consider is picking the right attire for your beach wedding. While most hotels also provide an indoor reception area, the whole purpose of having a beach wedding is to at least have your wedding ceremony by the beach. For this, it is important to remember that it can be very windy and very sandy so it is important to opt for the right type of hairstyles and more importantly, the right type of shoes as heels may not go very well on a sandy beach. If you are planning to hold your reception outdoors as well, it is important to inform your guests about the attire, especially the right type of footwear as well.

Incorporating local tradition

Sri Lankan traditions can be incorporated into your wedding to give it an authentic touch. Kandyan dancers, most often found in Sri Lankan weddings are a great spectacle to include in your ceremony. These dancers are accompanied by drummers dressed in red and white attire, silver headpieces and jewellery. This will also add value to the guests who are attending the ceremony as it will give them a chance to experience Sri Lankan tradition. You can also include drumming and firebreathing as part of your wedding entertainment to incorporate local culture at your beach wedding
