From historical sites to natural beauty and entertainment, there is plenty for the whole family to appreciate. Here are the top ways to have a thrilling adventure in Abu Dhabi:

Visit Heritage Village

Heritage Village is a reconstruction of a traditional desert village. Exploring it will enable you to learn about the ancient customs and way of life of the natives. This village has a souk, dhows, mosque, and a historical fort that was built to protect against sea invasions. Children will love exploring the traditional “barasti” houses, and the falaj irrigation system in Al Ain's garden city. You’ll also have a chance to watch artisans hard at work making pottery, weaving, and glass-blowing, and even try them out yourself!

Discover the oldest building in the city

Qasr Al Hosn is the oldest building in Abu Dhabi. Known as the Watchtower, it was constructed in 1760. This site is known for its scenic views, and kids can appreciate the history and culture of the Emiratis. There is an Inner Fort and Outer Palace that you can explore. Also pay a visit to the House of Artisans - to observe how various handicrafts are made. Hotel offers in Abu Dhabi are plentiful. Spend time at the Children’s library

Visiting the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library is a great way to keep the kids entertained with an educational activity. Located in the city centre, the layout of the library is a delight. It is designed to resemble various landscapes of the UAE, such as dunes and mountains. The library has cosy spots where kids can snuggle up and read! You’ll find a range of books here for every age group. 

Have fun at Kidzania

Kidzania, Abu Dhabi allows kids to gain hands-on experience of the adult world. They’ll have a chance to explore a mini-city with places like petrol stations, fast food joints, supermarkets and more! This interactive design will allow them to have fun while picking up important skills. There is even a currency, kidZos. With so much to learn, this spot is a must-visit for families. 

Go on a Desert safari

A trip to Abu Dhabi wouldn’t be complete without a thrilling ride over the sand dunes. Head over to the Empty Quarter, known to be the largest expanse of sand in the world. Book a dune-bashing tour through the desert, or opt for a camel ride. Adrenaline junkies can try out sandboarding or quad biking. As evening draws in, you can watch the beautiful sunset light up the desert. The day will end at a traditional Bedouin camp, where you’ll be treated to a delicious spread of Arabian cuisine. 

Head to Al Ain Zoo

The Al Ain Zoo promises lots of fun for the whole family. There are over 4000 animals here, and children will thoroughly enjoy the activities and displays. From feeding penguins, seeing the exotic lemurs, watching parrot shows and going on a camel or horse ride, this zoo has everything. Some of the best exhibits include the reptiles and birds of prey shows. Stop by the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre to learn more about wildlife conservation. You can also opt for a safari tour at the foot of the Jebel Hafit mountain. This one-hour journey will educate the whole family on the ecosystem of the area, and you’ll have a great opportunity to spot animals such as zebras, giraffes, lions, rhinos, and wildebeest!

Discover Sir Bani Yas island

One of the most beautiful locations in Abu Dhabi is Sir Bani Yas Island, one of eight desert islands in Al Dhafra. This is a great spot for watersports such as snorkelling, diving and kayaking. The waters are pristine and clear. The island also offers memorable safari tours, led by knowledgeable operators. Ride in a 4x4 through the Arabian Wildlife Park, and witness a variety of animal species from oryx, gazelles and giraffes to hyenas and cheetahs.
